Mercado Histórico, aka Historic Farmers Market

Our favorite weekly farmers market, Historic Farmers Market, will be getting some extra Cinco de Mayo flare. Come for empanadas and tamales, enjoy breakfast burritos from Two Bits, shop from Mexican craft artisans, and stay for live Mexican music. The Historic Farmers Market happens every Sunday from 9am to 2pm.

Party at Coronados

Coronados Mexican Restaurant & Bar will celebrate Cinco de Mayo with great food, music, ice cold Negra Modelo and Modelo Especial beer on draft, plus handmade margaritas and exotic tequila cocktails. Keepin’ It Authentic at Ensenada

Ensenada Restaurant, the Historic Core’s original Mexican restaurant, has been serving great food on 5th/Spring for 25 years, and May 5th, 2013 will be no exception. Beer, michelada, and margaritas specials will start at 1:30pm and work their way through the evening. Plus you can’t go wrong with the Botana de Antojitos Mexicanos, their Mexican appetizer plate of a taco, enchilada, taquitos, sope and beans and rice for $14.95.

Cinco de Drinko at Silo Vodka Bar

Silo’s Cinco de Mayo celebration includes great deals on carnitas sliders, tacos, and of course chips n’ guac. In addition to their terrific cocktails, they will also be serving cheap specials such as Maestro Dobel tequila double shots, Silo margaritas, and the ever popular 3 dollar Tecate.

Early to Rise at La Cita

Opening at 10am on May 5th, La Cita will have ten hours of have drink specials. The bar will host a “Holy Guacamole” competition and free tacos will be available until the kitchen runs out. Live music comes from folk band Chubasco and DJ Noir will spin from 5-10 p.m.

Note to our local residents, workers, and visitors that May Day marches are planned for tomorrow, May 1st in our neighborhood. The marches will start at Broadway/Olympic and work their way up Broadway to Cesar E Chavez Ave. The marches, a call to action by immigrant rights groups, will begin at 12:00pm and cause traffic disruptions on and around Broadway in the early afternoon. The marches should be clear of the Historic Core by 3pm as the event will gather at LA Plaza Park at Olvera Street.

Please plan your afternoon accordingly. LAPD and BID officers will be assembled and monitoring the events.
