Dear Downtown Community,

Many of you have concerns about people on the street who appear to be suffering from extreme mental illness. Thankfully, we have a number to call besides LAPD–these individuals deserve the proper response and care.

After the forum we hosted with LAPD and LACDMH on Wednesday night, the Department of Mental Health passed out flyers with numbers to phone in for a “Mobile Triage Team” to assist with outreach to these individuals. [Obviously, if someone is harming another person or an extreme danger to themselves or others in the moment you should still dial 911.]

The purpose of these County outreach teams, according to the flyer is “To provide field-based triage and assessment of referred individual to determine eligibility for mental health services and housing needs. For those referrals that are assessed as eligible for SB-82 the staff will assist with linkage to mental health providers, housing and other needed case management services.”

Please put these numbers at your desks, in your phones:

M-F 8:00am to 5:00pm please call: 213-922-8142

After hours/All other times please call: 800-854-7771

Provide a description of the individual:

  • approximate age
  • clothing type/color
  • ethnicity
  • behaviors
  • state of health or condition-cleanliness
  • any other striking observations
  •  an individual’s name if you have it
  • the location – as precise as possible (an address where possible or typical roving locations)

Thank you for your continued commitment to being a part of the solutions. And please share this information with our Downtown community!

Warm regards,

Historic Core BID
